MDU Resources Group in Bismarck, N.D., has absorbed Beaumont, Texas-based Quality Concrete & Materials Co., Ltd., running 10 ready mixed plants, two material distribution yards and three pug mills throughout southeast and central Texas. With a payroll exceeding 125, the businesses have annual ready mixed and aggregate deliveries of 400,000 yd. and 1 million to 2 million tons, respectively, and revenues upwards of $50 million. They will become part of MDU’s construction materials subsidiary, Knife River Corp., which entered the Lone Star State in 2003, acquiring Waco ready mixed, aggregate and asphalt producer, Young Brothers Inc.

Quality Concrete’s strong market presence in an area that is experiencing robust industrial and commercial growth will be of great benefit to our construction materials business, notes MDU Resource CEO Terry Hildestad.

The company, adds Knife River CEO William Schneider, is a profitable and well-managed operation, and it reinforces our strategic commitment to grow our materials business. Quality Concrete founder and president Doug Almond will continue to lead the company, he says, operating as the East Texas Division under the Knife River brand.
