A memorandum of understanding has been established between the Tilt-Up Concrete Association (TCA) and the American Concrete Institute (ACI) to minimize duplication of activities and facilitate cooperation with respect to technical committees, educational seminars, publications, certification, and related activities. Accordingly, TCA will represent primarily the tilt-up industry in providing technical information and guidelines for field procedures, applications and practices as well as maintenance, while ACI will be responsible for development of concrete codes, standards and guidelines targeting concrete materials, design and repair.
As part of the agreement, TCA has created an ex-officio position for an ACI representative on its board of directors. Filling that post will be Douglas Sordyl, P.E., who serves as managing director for ACI of both Industry Affairs and the Strategic Development Council. In the role of ACI Industry Affairs managing director, Sordyl helps the institute build stronger alliances with other concrete, construction and code organizations. On the other hand, ACI’s Strategic Development Council summons the efforts of top executives from concrete industry players to identify and implement industry critical technologies/issues by removing barriers and resolving issues.
Prior to joining ACI in 2004, Sordyl spent 30 years in a multi-disciplined, architectural/engineering consulting firm as a structural engineer, project manager and operations. He holds professional engineering registrations in Michigan and California and is a LEED [Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design]-accredited professional.
