The National Ready Mixed Concrete Association has promoted Phil Kresge to senior director of national resources. Based in Macungie, Pa., he ranks among the association’s national roster of field promoters who focus on expanding concrete usage among large national organizations, while also working closely with national, regional, state and local promotion partners and NRMCA members. Targeting primarily the Mid-Atlantic states and the eastern part of the Midwest, he has cultivated relationships with decision makers for numerous national accounts, including Prime Retail Outlets, one of the nation’s largest strip mall developers. Kresge joined NRMCA in September 2004, having previously served as the promotion director for the Pennsylvania Concrete Promotion Council.

Separately, NRMCA has named L. Michael Shydlowski and Robert Turner honorary directors of the association’s board of directors in recognition of their years of distinguished service, commitment and involvement. The honor was formally announced during NRMCA’s annual convention in La Jolla, Calif. Effective this month, Shydlowski is retiring from his long-held role as president and CEO of Cleveland-based BASF Admixtures, Inc. A 37-plus-year veteran of the ready mixed concrete industry whose experience ranges from marketing and sales to technical service and general management, he has served on the NRMCA Government Affairs and Concrete Promotion committees, and chaired the Materials Division. Also a founder of the grassroots RMC 2000 movement, Shydlowski has lent his expertise as well to the development and growth of the Concrete Industry Management program at Middle Tennessee University and the RMC Research & Education Foundation.

Turner is a former senior vice president of Grace Construction Products, who retired in July 1998 after 33 years of service. While focusing his efforts on sustaining Grace’s North American concrete admixtures and cement additive businesses and identifying growth prospects, he has served as NRMCA board member, Materials Division chairman, and RMC Research & Education Foundation director. Turner remains active in NRMCA, especially in its Government Affairs and Political Action committees.

The Concrete Foundations Association (CFA) will hold its annual convention Aug. 9-11, at the Stoweflake Resort in Stowe, Vt. In a setting conducive to exploring developments that can optimize industry services and quality, CFA officials note, the convention offers the premier education and networking opportunity for poured-wall industry professionals. Accordingly, contractors, design professionals, and product/equipment manufacturers will gather during the event to discuss latest trends, achievements and successes, and business improvement.

Seminars will be held Friday and Saturday morning with roundtable discussions in the afternoon. Seminar topics include succession planning, crisis communication, foundation education modules, concrete homes, standing firm amidst hurricanes, pan forming, revisiting robotics, and GPS as a management tool. Opening the convention Thursday evening will be the inaugural CFA Product Rodeo, featuring hands-on operation of a broad range of concrete pumps, robotic layout equipment, and footing forming systems. While attendees will view outdoor demonstrations and operate equipment Thursday afternoon, the evening event will pit selected experts in competition to determine the fastest at their respective product stations.
