The National Ready Mixed Concrete Association has named Eugene P. Martineau recipient of the 2006 William B. Allen Award, to be presented during this month’s annual convention in La Jolla, Calif.

The chief executive officer of Houston-based U.S. Concrete Inc., Martineau has nearly 40 years’ experience in ready mixed and manufactured concrete, and at the executive level has overseen operations in 15 states. He is a longtime supporter of NRMCA, having served the Association in many roles, including five terms as a member of the Board of Directors and four times on the Executive Committee. He has been a member of numerous committees, including Promotion, Membership, Long-Range Planning, Government Affairs, Concrete Industry Alliance and Industry Relations. Martineau has also been a member of the Board of Trustees of the RMC Research Foundation since its inception in 2001 and was chairman of the Foundation’s Program Committee from 2001-2003. In 2004 he was elected chairman of the Foundation. He was a founder of RMC 2000, a grassroots industry movement that was a positive catalyst for transformational change for both the industry and NRMCA and served as its national director from 1994-1997.

Martineau currently serves as chairman of the National Steering Committee of the Concrete Industry Management program. Through his leadership, the program has expanded to its current status of four participating universities. He has been married to his wife, Nancy, for 39 years and they have two children (Todd and Courtney).

On the business side, Martineau was a founder of U.S. Concrete and has been at helm since the company’s 1998 inception. During that time, U.S. Concrete has grown to become one of the ready mixed industry’s largest producers. Gene’s contributions to NRMCA and our industry are second to none, affirms NRMCA President Robert Garbini.

The Allen award is named after one of the ready mixed concrete industry’s most distinguished and accomplished figures. Bill Allen has more than 55 years of concrete- and aggregates-related experience. He owned and managed the largest ready mixed concrete, sand and gravel, block and building materials company in Memphis until 1981 and has been working in the industry as a consultant since. He is currently chairman of Allen-Villere Partners.
