New York City’s first use of insulating concrete forms (ICFs) for multifamily units will provide housing for low-income families in the Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood of Brooklyn. Assisting in the Habitat for Humanity-NYC development are the New York City Concrete Promotion Council and members Tilcon New York (aggregate); New York Poly Steel (ICF); and, Lafarge North America, which is supplying 200 tons of cement to Brooklyn ready mixed producer Greco Brothers.

During a late-November ICF mix demonstration pour, Habitat-NYC Executive Director Roland Lewis noted, We thank our industry partners, who generously contributed their expertise and product so we could pioneer [ICF] use in New York City. Owners will benefit by saving money on energy bills, living in more comfortable ÎgreenÌ environments, and having safer, stronger homes.

The Brooklyn project coincides with a Habitat for Humanity-Westchester County duplex home under way in Yonkers, just north of New York City, where Oldcastle Precast and High Concrete Group are supplying precast wall, floor and roof components.
