The National Ready Mixed Concrete Association and the Portland Cement Association have teamed with Land Development Today magazine to offer the seminar

The National Ready Mixed Concrete Association and the Portland Cement Association have teamed with Land Development Today magazine to offer the seminar Pervious Concrete Û A Stormwater Solution in four cities in early 2007. The one-day seminars are scheduled for:

  • Phoenix Û February 20
  • Austin, Texas Û February 22
  • Seattle Û March 13
  • Kansas City, Missouri Û March 15

Targeting a wide range of construction professionals, the program offers instruction on implementing pervious concrete pavements as a means to minimize stormwater runoff from building sites and other paved areas, allowing natural filtration to recharge local groundwater supplies. Covered in the seminar will be detailed description of pervious concrete pavement systems, engineering properties, and construction techniques. Civil engineers, architects, landscape architects, and public works officials will learn to design and write specifications for pervious concrete projects, while contractors, product suppliers and land developers will gain useful advice regarding applications and installation techniques.

Program presenters will include two of the following qualified instructors:

  • Bruce Ferguson. Franklin Professor of Landscape Architecture, University of Georgia
  • Heather Brown, assistant professor, Concrete Industry Management, Middle Tennessee State University
  • Lionel Lemay, vice president of technical resources, National Ready Mixed Concrete Association
  • Michelle Wilson, manager, Education and Product Development, Portland Cement Association

The seminars are being offered in cooperation with Arizona Cement Association, Arizona Rock Products Association, Cement Council of Texas, Concrete Promotion Group, Inc., Kansas Ready Mixed Concrete Association, Northwest Cement Producers Group, South Central Cement Promotion Association, Texas Aggregates and Concrete Association, and Washington Aggregates and Concrete Association.

Architects and engineers will earn six Professional Development Hours upon completing the program, which is registered with the American Institute of Architects Continuing Education Systems.
