Hanson Structural Precast Pacific has secured a Joshua tree-bearing plot in Adelanto, Calif., for a new double tee and Spancrete hollow core plank plant. This is in response to expanding market demand in southern California and southern Nevada, says company president Ed Wopschall. We can increase production by 100 percent and store five times more product, therefore reducing costs.
Scheduled for an early 2008 opening, the Adelanto operation will have a payroll of about 100 and consolidate production from Irwindale and Chula Vista, Calif., plants, each on leased land and acquired by Hanson in 1999. Those properties are among five current Hanson Pipe & Precast plants in California, with a total payroll of 375. The Structural Precast investment follows announcement of a $45 million, central Florida development to anchor the Hanson Pipe & Precast Southeast Region.
