REINFORCING ANCHOR SYSTEM

A micro cement anchoring and reinforcing technique comprises a steel bar enclosed in a mesh fabric sleeve that is inserted into the structure requiring reinforcement. The process begins with engineer’s inspection; a 3-D model is then created to assess behavioral probability and inherent stress in order to determine the best reinforcement pattern. Upon installation, a nonpolymer, cement-like grout is injected into the sleeve under low pressure. Fusing with the mesh, the grout then expands and shapes itself around the steel to fit the space. Dry- or low-volume wet diamond drilling techniques are used as appropriate to reduce or even eliminate water damage associated with conventional concrete wet drilling. Cintec

WATERPROOFER

Commercial-grade agent is described by the manufacturer as an advanced, high-solid, siliconized, acrylic blend designed to protect and strengthen bare, porous concrete and masonry, such as split-face or fluted concrete block. Containing 25 percent solids, it reportedly provides a tough, breathable film that will not yellow. In addition, the coating meets ASTM SS-W-110-C for Water Repellency on Masonry and ASTM 5590-00 Mildew Resistance.

To eliminate water intrusion, staining, and freeze/thaw damage to concrete, product developers note, a blend of silicone and acrylic polymers was formulated to create a highly hydrophobic film that beads water, so a surface will literally look dry after a hard rain. The emulsion’s small particle size reportedly yields greater penetration depth, while low VOCs and zero hazardous materials are easy on the environment. As a silicone blend, the product is exceptionally strong, the manufacturer contends. Besides sealing the surface, it reportedly hardens the masonry exterior by increasing compressive strength, adding to the dimensional stability of mortar joints. The commercial grade waterproofer also serves as a paint additive to improve water resistance and spread rate. Seal-Krete

SAWTOOTH ANCHORS

Advanced Threadform technology on the company’s line of Tapcon anchors includes a new sawtooth design said to provide up to 30 percent reduction in installation torque, making it easier to install the screw anchors in concrete. One fastener featuring the technology is the Large Diameter Tapcon (LDT), whose sawtooth thread pattern cuts its own grooves into concrete and optimizes pullout performance and installation speed for improved job site productivity. The LDT is available in several diameters and lengths to suit a wide variety of heavy-duty concrete anchoring applications.

For LDT installation in what product developers note is less than half the time of wedge or adhesive anchors, manufacturer recommends using a standard ANSI bit to drill a pilot hole and driving the anchor with an impact or socket wrench after cleaning the drilled hole. Once installed, the LDT exposes its finished head design; the absence of exposed threads on the head eliminates tripping hazards. The head of each anchor is stamped with a length identification code for easy inspection. Anti-rotation serrations on the washer prevent backout. ITW Inc.

COMPACT WHEEL LOADER

According to the manufacturer, the new 344J provides 17,300 lb. of breakout force to move more material quickly. Key to productivity is oscillated stereo steering, which delivers fast cycle times by allowing tight turns with large loads, as well as greater stability and maneuverability, plus fewer three-point turns.

The standard hydrostatic drive train’s variable range allows the operator to match travel speed to the work at hand, while the 344J tops out at 19 mph. A load-sensing, closed-center hydraulic system delivers only the power required, eliminating fuel waste, while excavator-style hydraulics provide fluid power for smooth boom and bucket functions. The standard, exclusive return-to-dig feature automatically returns the bucket to a preset level for faster work cycles. A manual low-speed differential lock provides tractive effort to go deeper into the pile for full bucket loads, and a nearly 12-ft. reach helps the 344J dump to the center of tandem-axle trucks.

In the redesigned, walk-through cab, 360-degree visibility provides clear sight lines; and, the low-effort joystick helps the operator control the boom and bucket, FNR and differential lock with one hand. The inching/brake pedal slows travel speed while keeping engine rpm high for optimum hydraulic response and control. The machine’s turbocharged 4.5-liter PowerTech diesel engine runs 500 hours between oil changes. An easy-lift hood and transverse-mounted engine, as well as ground-level access to dipsticks, filler necks, and coolant reservoir facilitate daily maintenance. John Deere

RFID TAG READING STANDARD ON STRETCH WRAPPER

Manufacturer has introduced RFID tag-reading capability as a standard option on its semiautomatic pallet stretch wrappers. Geared to Gen 1 and 2 tags, the RD5000 system can read at the pallet or case level. As a drop-in option, it eliminates brackets, cables, external antenna and any interface to the machine or control system, working independently with its own motion-sensing.

The reader measures 7- _ 9- _ 2-in. and weighs less than 4 lbs., and is battery operated, but can be wired to the machine’s power supply. The RD5000’s integrated wireless LAN is compliant with 802.11a/b/g standards, allowing it to communicate with any standard WiFi network. The unit is sealed to an IP66 rating against water jets and dust, and runs under the Windows CE operating system.

Pilot machines with the reader mounted on the film delivery system have proven that stretch wrappers have a natural advantage in tag reading by repeatedly exposing five sides of a pallet load to the reader’s antenna, product engineers note. The company’s Q-300 semi-automatic stretch wrapping system is an RFID-development machine, with capability for processing 25-35 loads per hour up to 80-in. tall and weighing up to 1814 kg (4000 lb).
