Mastercast SC150 from Danish machine supplier Pedershaab Concrete Technologies A/S provided the solution when Kennedy Concrete Products Ltd., a leading Northern Ireland precaster and part of the Kennedy Group Construction and Development Co., needed to increase the product range of its ducted cable chambers. Since Kennedy Concrete has installed a number of Pedershaab machines, Operations Director Michael Budina drew upon past experience with the manufacturer to effect a plant upgrade and capacity expansion.
Increasing product range, in particular to include junction boxes and carriageway chambers, necessitated moving to the automated system provided by the Mastercast machine. The SC150 comprises a BF2000 concrete feeder with built-in vibrator; hydraulic belt drive with adjustable belt speed; filling table; and, VB20 vibration table with hydraulically driven V100 vibrator offering adjustable centrifugal force and vibration frequency, including maximum 3,500 rpm and maximum 140 kN centrifugal force. Also incorporated in the system are a turnover and stripping arrangement, stripping cart and turntable, plus a swivel arm for placement of reinforcement into the mold Û under the guidance of a PLC control desk.
The Mastercast SC150 automatic cycle includes filling, vibration, trowelling and demolding. A forklift truck is then used to transport product to the curing area. The machine, however, can be combined with a moving floor or racking system to further automate the process.
Capable of producing approximately 60 units per day, Mastercast SC150 is equipped with a PLC control unit, allowing operators at all levels to easily supervise the number of revolutions on a digital display and store the data for later use. A multi-functional machine, it can be supplied with central core vibration to produce a wide range of products. Û www.pedershaab.com; North American/CTI Inc. contact, Lars Nielsen, 920/227-7130
