AltusGroup and TechFab LLC conducted a Precast on a Diet nine-city U.S. tour recently to promote C-Grid carbon-fiber use for precast reinforcement. A key feature was a 73-ft.-long flatbed precast-product viewing trailer. At each tour stop, attendees boarded the trailer following daylong seminars highlighting CarbonCast precast carbon fiber, which comprises C-Grid reinforcement. The truck provided attendees a close-up perspective of precast wall panel samples, architectural panels, a mock double-tee deck, and a residential stem deck. Six months of intensive planning and preparation by TechFab and AltusGroup members ensured the success of the tour, attended at various stops by 300-plus people from nearly 250 companies. Tour participants received 7.5 health, safety and welfare continuing education credits from the American Institute of Architects.
Highlights of the tour included a visit to the Reagan Building plaza in Washington, D.C., and an appearance by Atlanta mayor Shirley Franklin during a stop in The Big Peach. Also covered on the tour were New York City, Philadelphia, Raleigh, Charlotte, Atlanta, Cincinnati, St. Louis, and Chicago. A fall tour slate is being planned to further C-Grid outreach and education efforts. Û www.altusprecast.com, 866/GO-ALTUS
