Women In Masonry Delegation Schools Chileans

Five National Association for Women in Masonry members trade experts in the fields of masonry and exterior finishes instructed 300,000 attendees in masonry

Five National Association for Women in Masonry members Û trade experts in the fields of masonry and exterior finishes Û instructed 300,000 attendees in masonry installation, worker safety, and exterior finishing techniques at the May technology trade Expo Hormigon in Santiago, Chile. Led by NAWM Executive Director Barbara Headrick, the group included Mary Lovette, BAC Local #1 bricklayer, Seattle; Laura Johnson and Suzie Lloyd, International Plasterer’s and Cement Masons’ Union of Portland, Ore.; and, Jeannie Rosanelli, Buckley Rumford Fireplaces, Port Townsend, Wash.

The NAWM instructors presented several seminars and demonstrations:

  • Ergonomics and Worker Safety in the Workplace Û Barbara Headrick
  • Dryvit, Stucco, and EIFS exterior finishes and Venetian Marble interior finishes Û Laura Johnson and Suzy Lloyd
  • Laying of CMU block and bricks Û Mary Lovette
  • The History and Constructability of Rumford Fireplaces Û Jeannie Rosanelli

Through this venue, women show the world that they are and can be considered ÎexpertsÌ, Headrick affirms. This year’s Expo celebrated women and, not coincidentally, the newly elected president of Chile is a woman. We are grateful for this opportunity to showcase women in the trades.
