Seeking a rapid construction method providing structural integrity and long service life, Pennsylvania’s Downington School District awarded Oldcastle Precast Modular Group the contract to design, engineer, produce and erect 15 modular school components, with a painted exterior finish, precast wall panels, and roof slabs, comprising the Shamona Creek Elementary School expansion. The project includes precast modular construction of five classrooms replacing the current modular trailers. Additional parking and a new instructional center and gymnasium are also planned.
The new 5,500-sq.-ft. precast expansion will encompass five 900-sq.-ft. classrooms with a connector link to the existing school. The corridor will feature three skylights to increase lighting and openness.
OPMG’s fast-track construction integrates a series of premanufactured precast building components to create secure, high-quality, durable classrooms and open spaces, Oldcastle representatives affirm. General contractor for the project is Dolan Construction, Reading, Pa., and the architect of record is Highland Associates of Clarks Summit, Pa.
