Titan America LLC, Deerfield Beach, Fla., has closed on two independent producers, Metro Redi-Mix Co. in St. Petersburg, and Elbrecht Concrete Inc. (d/b/a Summit Ready Mix) in Ft. Myers, with five ready mixed plants. The deals offer Titan’s Florida business, Tarmac, presence in high growth markets on Florida’s west coast. Tarmac is heavily vested in ready mixed and block production up and down the Atlantic coast, with limited presence in the central part of the state.
[These acquisitions] enable us to expand our efforts to serve Florida’s growing need for materials, says Tarmac President Hardy Johnson. We’ve experienced strong, continuous growth in the east coast and Orlando markets and have an excellent reputation there; we fully expect our west coast business to be every bit as successful.
The Metro and Elbrecht transactions follow last year’s completion of a major overhaul of Tarmac’s Pennsuco cement plant, now equipped for 1.8 million tons/year output, and the dedication of a Port of Tampa cement terminal with 57,000 tons’ storage capacity. The Metro properties bring Tarmac into a market where its Florida neighbor, Rinker Materials, recently gained a significant ready mixed and block foothold by acquiring Keys Concrete Industries.
