Tom Hill, chief executive of Washington, D.C.-based Oldcastle Materials, was recently named co-chair of American Road and Transportation Builders Association’s SAFETEA Reauthorization Task Force. Along with Paul Yarossi, president of New York City-based engineering giant, HNTB Holdings Ltd., Hill will help draft the association’s legislative agenda for the Safe, Accountable, Flexible, Efficient Transportation Equity Act reauthorization, due by September 2009. During his 2002-2004 term as ARTBA chairman, Hill played a leading role in Congressional testimony and related activities the association pursued to secure adequate funding levels for SAFETEA. The legislation saw funding levels rise about 40 percent over the previous highway bill, TEA-21.
Tom Hill and Paul Yarossi are distinguished transportation construction industry leaders and bring a wealth of experience to the table, 2006 ARTBA Chairman Gene McCormick (Parsons Brinckerhoff Quade & Douglas) said in announcing their appointments. Under their leadership, the task force will develop reauthorization proposals reflecting the industry’s consensus position on highway and public transit financing, policy and regulatory issues. The task force will report on its proceedings at the ARTBA 2006 Annual Meeting, Sept. 26-29 in San Diego, he adds.
