In support of its sweeping Prescriptive-to-Performance (P2P) concrete specifications initiative, the RMC Research Foundation, Silver Spring, Md., has released 1) Preparation of a Performance-based Specification for Cast-in-Place Concrete, which includes a comprehensive review of worldwide performance-based specifications and recommendations for transitioning the industry toward their use; and, 2) Experimental Case Study Demonstrating Advantages of Performance Specifications, providing technical data from a side-by-side comparison of prescriptive and performance-based concrete mixtures.
The P2P projects are vital to the growth and success of the industry. The movement toward performance-based specifications will strengthen the industry’s reputation in producing one of the best building materials available, says Foundation Chairman Christopher Crouch (Cemex). The release of these two projects and the benefits they will bring to the industry are a sterling example of how the Foundation is working to advance the concrete industry.
Both projects have been closely reviewed by the P2P Steering Committee and the National Ready Mixed Concrete Association’s Research and Engineering Standards Committee, which spearheaded the P2P movement. The reports are available for download from www.rmc-foundation.org.
