The Shilstone Companies Inc. and Contek Inc, providers of mix design software and consulting services, have merged. The venture will usher in a new era in high-tech quality management software solutions, company officials conted. By joining Shilstone’s experience and concrete mix technology to Contek’s software expertise, we are creating tremendous value for the concrete industry, they noted in a joint statement last month. We are poised to bring to the industry the next generation of QC and design software products.

Shilstone’s consulting specialties include architectural concrete, concrete mixture proportioning, quality control/quality assurance and troubleshooting problems. For over 20 years, Dallas-based Shilstone Cos. developed and distributed the see series quality-control software for concrete and aggregate producers. Its see-MIX software for portland cement concrete mixture optimization has long been recognized among practitioners.

Montreal-based Contek has provided the construction industry with highly specialized Quality Control and Mixture management software for over a decade. The company is rooted in both materials testing lab and software services, which have grown significantly over the years to meet the changing needs of concrete, asphalt and aggregate producers.

The LABsys technology is focused on helping clients leverage their QC data more effectively to improve material performance and consistency. Contek officials cite a long-standing interest in developing strong alliances with innovative and forward-thinking producers and suppliers. Among the latter, they have collaborated with industry leaders such as Chryso Admixtures, Marcotte Systems, Jonel Engineering, and most recently Systech Inc.
