SKID-STEER LOADERS

The 2026 and 2041 models maintain the compact size of their predecessors, models 2022 and 2032, yet offer higher capacities and more features, the manufacturer notes. With SAE-rated operating loads of 1,050 and 1,350 lbs., respectively, the 2026 and 2041 were reportedly designed to meet the needs of customers seeking more power from smaller machines.

The 2026 provides 35 hp at 2,600 rpm. Equipped with a bucket as small as 48 inches, the unit is sufficiently compact to fit through most fence gates for light-duty work on congested sites. The unit can also accommodate a 55- or 61-in. bucket as needed. At approximately 4,000 lbs. operating weight, the 2026 can be transported in larger pick-up trucks. Another powerful unit with a compact chassis, the 2041 wields 46 hp at 2,600 rpm. The unit is nearly 72 inches tall, 55 inches wide with a bucket, and 116 inches long.

Like other models in the company’s skid-steer line, the 2026 and 2041 offer a choice of controls, the Multi-Tach universal attachment mounting system, tilt-back ROPS for easy maintenance, and an operator restraint bar with armrests. New features include new air cleaner and hydraulic filter systems, improved drive control with a 25 percent control effort reduction, heavier ROPS hand holds for easier entry, a new engine cover and rear door, deeper recessed rear lights, and larger-capacity fuel tanks. AGENT TREATS VINTAGE TANK CORROSION

Located outdoors and lacking repairs for almost 20 years, concrete tanks originally constructed in 1939 exhibited the corrosive effects of exposure to wastewater solution and weather conditions. Corroding and spalled areas as well as exposed rebar called for treatment. Accordingly, Cortec MCI (Migrating Corrosion Inhibitor) Repair System was identified as an option to control corrosive attack, extending the tanks’ service life 10 to 15 years.

First, the vessels were sandblasted and then pressure washed to remove all loose material. Exposed rebar was coated with MCI 2023, a passivating repair grout that provides extra corrosion protection to reinforcing steel. Spalled areas were repaired with MCI 2038, a two-component, fiber-reinforced finish repair mortar. The tanks’ entire surface area was treated with MCI 2020, NSF Sandard 61 approved for potable water applications. As a final step, the tanks received two coats of epoxy.

A one-coat treatment, MCI 2020 is easily sprayed, brushed or rolled on, the manufacturer notes. SEM (scanning election microscopy) and XPS (X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy) demonstrate MCI migration through dense concrete structures. For field testing, the migratory depth of MCI is measured with a low-cost, QAC test kit, which shows that the product migrates up to four inches in 28 days. The MCI Repair System protects both anodic and cathodic areas to reduce corrosion of steel reinforcing bars, wire, and mesh, regardless of chloride concentration levels. Both cracked beam and ASTM G109 testing demonstrate that MCI 2020 surface treatment can reduce corrosion rates as much as 80 percent. Û www.CortecMCI.com, 800/426-7832

CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT SOFTWARE

The new web portal for Forefront Construction Management Software provides employees and customers access to critical data and functions, including payroll/timecard and customer service, from any computer with an Internet connection. Companies can also use Forefront Web Portal to create and maintain Web site content.

The Time and Quantity Entry application expedites employee time card entry from the field. Project managers, foremen and individual employees can log onto Web Portal to enter their time into Forefront. Alternatively, the company can specify that only select individuals (a crew leader or project manager, for example) can enter and view that information.

With the Service Inquiry and Request application, the company’s customer enters a service request directly into Forefront. The contractor analyzes the request and determines how to proceed before responding to the customer. Web Portal also gives customers real-time access to their complete service and billing history online. It works like a word processor for a Web site, as the company can create and publish pages, post photos, offer an employee directory, create and distribute newsletters, provide discussion forums, and update content. MOLD STAIN REMOVER

Although mold and mildew stains can be difficult to remove from masonry and composite surfaces, UltraMean safely cleans and restores exterior surfaces, the manufacturer affirms. The product removes stains and dirt caused by mildew and tannins; and, as it does not contain bleach or TSP, no adherence problems arise with finishes damaged by such ingredients.

UltraMean neutralizes and brightens surfaces that have been stripped with corrosive products. While not to be used on metals such as aluminum, it effectively cleans concrete, fiberglass, tile, cordage and caulk. Once surfaces have been cleaned with UltraMean, they can be protected further with UltraBan, which prevents mold growth on its dried film, shielding surfaces from damage caused by moisture and fungus growth.

UltraMean is available in a 40-oz., ready-to-use spray bottle and as a concentrate in 1-gal. and 2.5-gal. containers. When properly diluted, one gallon will treat up to 2,500 square feet. It can be applied by garden pump, airless sprayer, roller, brush or submersion bath. Rhino Hide
