Management authority scales construction’s digitization reckoning

Digital technologies such as building information modeling, prefabrication, wireless sensors, automated and robotic equipment, and 3D printing will transform the entire engineering and construction (E&C) industry and its 100 million-plus employees worldwide, according to “Shaping the Future of Construction: Future Scenarios and Implications.” The new World Economic Forum and Boston Consulting Group report cites a potential $1.0 trillion to $1.7 trillion in an annual cost savings tied to a full-scale digitization of the global E&C business.

Life cycle, nanotech research lead ACI Foundation 2018 commitments

Academy honors NRMCA training video for creative excellence

The National Ready Mixed Concrete Association’s Jobsite Chute Rinse-off video has earned the Academy of Interactive and Visual Arts (AIVA) 2018 Communicator Distinction Award, part of the largest and most competitive program honoring creative excellence for communications professionals. AVIA receives 6,000-plus entries from companies, organizations and agencies of all sizes. Representatives of members—Condè Nast, Disney, Republica, Sesame Workshop, MTV, Starbucks, Time Inc., Tribal DDB, Yahoo!, among them—oversee and judge the program.

Below-garage space not lost on Northeast Precast’s Prespan system

Millville, N.J.-based Northeast Precast has patented an insulated, precast floor plank system for residential and commercial projects. Prespan allows builders to gain a clear span of the entire home or building to create a full basement or crawl space walls under the garage. The rigid product exhibits less deflection and is 25 percent lighter compared to hollow core plank.
