It occupies the first 10 floors of the new 42-story, Arrivé tower, one of the market’s first mixed-use properties. The structure has requisite reinforced concrete construction, including exposed columns whose smooth finishes suggest self-consolidating mixes.

Northwestern University wall rides wave of creativity to PCI Building Award

The winning project of the Precast/Prestressed Institute’s 2019 Building Awards – Custom Solution entailed a unique setting on the western edge of Lake Michigan in Evanston, Ill. Chicago architect Perkins + Will was faced with the challenge of keeping the foundation of the new Ryan Fieldhouse & Walter Athletics Center at Northwestern University from being damaged by waves and ice rubble. The solution: a design-build precast concrete coastal wall made up of 109 5-ft. wide segments of varying heights and tapers arranged in two planes to replicate the appearance of a wave.

Regrouping in style

One of the Mid-Atlantic’s best known brands in ready mixed concrete and aggregates recently completed a three-phase, 16-month project to expand and modernize its Fairless Hills, Pa., headquarters. Silvi Group’s new 20,000-sq.-ft. home office is nearly three times the size of its original two-story facility, whose exterior was extended with matching stone, bronze colored trim, and glass all around. The upgrade netted three stories of offices, conference and training rooms, plus more spacious lobby and other common areas.

Valuables-geared storage structure cast to museum-grade integrity

Art, fashion and collections storage company UOVO has announced the opening of their fourth facility, UOVO: Brooklyn. Located in the thriving arts community of Bushwick, the 150,000-sq.-ft. concrete building will offer specialized climate-controlled storage designed to meet or exceed the standards of the world’s leading museums. Scheduled to open in fall 2019, it will be the largest and highest quality art storage facility in Brooklyn.
