Wooster, Ohio-based Seaman Corp. has entered a strategic alliance under which its XR Quikliner membrane will be distributed through A-Lok Products Inc. in Tullytown, Pa., a key player in underground precast connectors, gaskets and accessories. A prefabricated PVC alloy with polypropylene fiber backing, Seaman’s Quikliner is based on XR-5 technology, which has been deployed for 40-plus years in geomembrane conditions subject to harsh environments.

“XR-5 technology offers a liner that provides 100 percent attachment to the concrete, can make unique shapes, and will allow us to refine our present liner solutions,” says A-Lok President Jim Westhoff.

Heavy building materials innovators who leverage technology advancements to make smarter decisions faster, achieve break-through performance and deliver differentiated experiences inform a “Made for Now” theme for Command Alkon’s 2019 Elevate Conference & Expo, November 5-6 in Chicago.

“Construction projects make meaningful contributions to the communities they’re designed to serve and are decades lasting,” says Vice President of Marketing Ed Rusch. “Elevate brings together a remarkable group of highly talented people who make those projects happen; the tech-savvy women and men from across the industry who have an insatiable appetite to learn, ideate, and co-create with other like-minded attendees.”

As business becomes faster-paced and customer expectations grow, he adds, an immediate urgency for digital collaboration across many-to-many industry partners is revealed. “Made for Now” will highlight the significant progress construction leaders are making to disrupt the status quo and embrace technology in the platform era. Elevate will take place at Sheraton Grand Chicago, located on the edge of downtown, midpoint between the Magnificent Mile and Navy Pier shopping, dining and entertainment districts. Registration and full agenda details are posted www.theheavyworkconference.com.

Charah Solutions Inc. has secured a byproduct sales and material handling contract extension for the Luminant Miami Fort and Zimmer power plants in southern Ohio. It will continue to manage and market the facilities’ coal combustion products, including all specification grade Class F fly ash.

Through truck, rail and barge operations across its MultiSource materials network, Charah Solutions transfers Miami Fort and Zimmer ash to concrete producers in Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, North Carolina, Florida, Mississippi, Louisiana and Oklahoma.

“This is a great example of our unique ability to bundle service offerings for utilities,” says Scott Sewell, chief executive officer of Louisville, Ky.-based Charah Solutions. “As a result, concrete producers are now able to reliably purchase quality fly ash through the MultiSource network in the Midwest, Northeast and deep South. In addition, we have dramatically reduced the need to landfill fly ash at Miami Fort and Zimmer, saving Luminant both expense and valuable space.”

“This extended agreement will help Miami Fort and Zimmer move towards 100 percent beneficial re-use of our byproducts,” adds Luminant Manager of Byproducts and Refined Coal Todd Stinson. “Charah Solutions’ ongoing presence in the Ohio River region and broad terminal network will continue to be a major factor in achieving this goal.”
