Clark Pacific webinar series states ‘Case for Resilient Design’

Sources: Clark Pacific, West Sacramento, Calif.; CP staff

Leading West Coast architectural and structural precast producer Clark Pacific has teamed with the U.S. Resiliency Council, a non-profit organization that aims to establish building resilient ratings, to offer a complimentary webinar series for architects, engineers and building owners.

“This series [is] an opportunity to present our case for why resilient building is a valuable and important practice,” says Clark Pacific President Don Clark. In the wake of Hurricane Katrina, SuperStorm Sandy and, closer to home, the Napa, Calif., earthquake, he adds, communities are looking for a more pro-active approach in addressing building resiliency.

“Case for Resilient Design” participants will see a) real world examples of resilience-minded projects and learn the value of related design; b) how to more easily and efficiently predict building performance; and, c) examples of financial return on resilience-rooted investments and why the design philosophy is good for business. Webinar speakers include SP3 Software CEO Curt Haselton, Ph.D., P.E.; Simpson Gumpertz & Heger Senior Principal Ronald Hamburger, S.E., SECB; and, U.S. Resiliency Council’s Evan Reis. Each session will be presented at 11 a.m. (Pacific); themes and dates are:

  • Resilient Based Design & Risk Assessment, September 14
  • Quantifying and Communicating Resilient Design: A Standardized Rating System, October 6
  • Resilient Design in the Real World: Case Study, October 26
  • Financial Return on Resilient Design, November 16
