Concrete Tech program set for fall 2011 semester in Alpena, July open house

At the urging of industry and community partners, ACC is reopening the two-year Concrete Technology program, recruiting freshman candidates to fill 35 slots and announcing first-come, first-served availability of 20 $500 ACC Foundation scholarships for first-year students. The program offers an associate’s degree with general curriculum plus courses involving hands-on instruction related to materials technology, mix production and concrete product machinery.

College officials had indicated a potential scaling back of the program to accept a new class of freshmen every other year, versus annually; they encourage fall 2011 class candidates to enroll by mid July. “Community colleges are known for responsiveness to industry needs and being connected to their communities,” says ACC Board of Trustees Chairman John Briggs. “The pride of stakeholders in ACC’s unique, flagship Concrete Tech program moves us to make this strategic adjustment for the benefit of students and industry partners. We are counting on the teamwork of all concerned to make this phase of our work successful.”

All interested students are invited to a Concrete Tech Open House, July 12, featuring ACC World Center for Concrete Technology tours; meetings with faculty and staff responsible for financial aid and admissions.; and, placement tests along with class enrollment. Students interested in attending or obtaining more information about the fall 2011 Concrete Tech session, starting in August, are encouraged to contact ACC Director of Admissions Mike Kollien, 989/358-7339; [email protected]
