Early registration opens for Self Consolidating Concrete 2013 conference

Discounted registration for the Fifth North American Conference on the Design and Use of Self-Consolidating Concrete (SCC2013) is available through February 25th at the event website.

Themed “The New Normal — Innovation, Application, Production,” the conference will run May 12–15 at the Westin Michigan Avenue in Chicago. SCC2013 will feature 100-plus presentations from concrete practitioners, researchers and experts representing 30 countries and addressing SCC materials (powders, nano-particles, aggregates, and admixtures); design methodology (mix and structural design); production (rheology/workability and formwork pressure); quality control (methods, procedures, and specifications); and, property and performance evaluation (experimentation, monitoring, and modeling). More than 15 scheduled presentations are case studies on successes of and lessons learned from SCC applications.

The SCC2013 organizing committee has also scheduled a May 14 workshop at the University of Illinois–Chicago, where participants will observe a mixer truck discharging a well-designed SCC mixture into an intricate formwork. After running a wide range of tests that characterize properties (slump flow, J-ring, VSI, T-50, V-funnel, column segregation, inclined plane flow test, U and L-box), experts will de-stabilize the mixture with water and re-stabilize with admixtures. Participants will also run tests on quality and marginal SCC mixtures, gaining insight on identifying common problems and how to produce cost-effective, consistently high-quality product.

The American Concrete Institute is organizing SCC2013 with French group Rilem, plus cosponsors including Prairie Material, Lafarge North America, National Ready Mixed Concrete Association and Portland Cement Association. Conference chairs are Iowa State’s Kejin Wang and Northwestern University/Center for Advanced Cement-Based Materials’ Surendra Shah.
