GCC of America is ramping up new equipment at its Rapid City, S.D., Dacotah cement plant, where work on a $100 million capacity expansion began in 2016. Upgrades increase annual capacity to 1,167,000 metric tonnes and are expected to reduce variable costs. Overall production suspended during a late-2018 tie-in phase for new equipment has resumed.

“The Rapid City expansion comes at an opportune time, as our U.S. cement plants are running at nearly full capacity, and we expect to see continued, steady growth in demand across our market area,” says GCC CEO Enrique Escalante. “We will be able to serve our customers better and operate our cement logistics network more efficiently with the additional capacity.”

GCC has 5.8 million mt of cement production capacity in Mexico and the U.S.—3.6 million mt across Rapid City plus sister plants in Pueblo, Colo.; Odessa, Texas; Tijeras, N.M.; and Trident, Mont. GCC of America expects to fully realize new Dacotah milling capacity over the next 18 to 24 months.
