Jointless slab developer targets advanced warehouse, production facilities

Sinclair Construction has launched the Megaslab Jointless Concrete System, crediting its design and performance potential for large slab-on-grade project owners to “ground-breaking technology paired with powerful admixtures that create an incredibly dense and impermeable slab, eliminating the need for installing control joints and their associated costs.”

Compared to jointless alternatives, the contractor conteds, slabs with curling- and spalling-prone control joints require more maintenance and upkeep—often leading to ongoing equipment repair and reduced productivity. Conventional reinforced, jointed slabs also limit the ability to develop and place the most optimized racking and robotic schematics in current storage, distribution and manufacturing facilities.

Megaslab is a complete concrete system that utilizes nanotechnology paired with a proprietary blend of durable and flexible admixtures. The result is an impermeable jointless slab with exceptional tensile strength and durability for the heaviest loads and equipment. Joining Adams in Megaslab design and engineering is HeidelbergCement AG and (pre-Cemex) RMC Industries veteran Sylvester Schmidt, who will lead technical support efforts as the system is commercialized. A major Megaslab installation is planned for this month, with additional projects in the works by year’s end. Sinclair is presenting the technology as a game changer for industries or applications such as logistics, industrial, food/beverage, aviation, and robotics-enabled automatic storage and retrieval systems.
