Design professionals question material, product sustainability claims

More than 85 percent of respondents to an online survey acknowledge concern for how building products they specify are manufactured, although only a quarter believe their clients understand what the term “sustainability” means. The way architects and interior designers view manufacturers' claims that their products are sustainable reveals that brands need to re-focus their marketing efforts toward more convincing messages, contends survey sponsor IMRE.

New ASTM cement standard simulates shearing by cement paste

A new standard, ASTM C1738, Practice for High-Shear Mixing of Hydraulic Cement Pastes, provides for preparing a mixture of cement paste that will simulate the shearing experienced by the cement paste in concrete, and was developed by Subcommittee C01.22 on Workability, part of ASTM's Committee C01 on Cement.

GCC Mid-Continent’s Lowe takes NRMCA National Mixer Driver title

Larry Dale Lowe, Jr. of Sallisaw, Okla., won the 2011 National Mixer Driver Championship in San Diego, topping a field of 25 competitors representing 18 NRMCA producer members from as many states. A 12-year GCC Mid-Continent Concrete veteran, he qualified for the September 25–26 event by taking this year’s Arkansas Ready Mixed Concrete Association Truck Rodeo.
