UPDATED MANUAL
The sixth edition of the Tilt-Up Construction and Engineering Manual is the first part of a three-volume resource currently in progress on site-cast, tilt-up design and construction. Tilt-Up Concrete Association Technical Director Jim Baty notes that the updated manual contains substantial revisions, based on feedback from a wide variety of experts throughout the industry, plus considerable added content in key areas. “The entire manual has been rewritten to be more representative of the entire industry and not just one geographic area,” he says. “It contains revisions to ensure ACI 318-03 and IBC 2003 compliance.”
Content for previous editions was assembled chiefly by author Hugh Brooks. By contrast, the sixth edition also includes content created through a concerted effort and input from the TCA staff and Technical Committee. This latest edition includes a comprehensive discussion on the design of insulation systems, a revised and expanded section on details and connections, as well as expanded information on unique project applications. Additionally, a CD-ROM containing photos, details and an electronic copy of the specifications is included with each manual. TCA is offering the package for $115 (members) and $145 (nonmembers).
“With so many changes and additions to this Manual,” notes Dave Kelly, TCA Technical Committee chair and Meadow Burke vice president of engineering, “referring to and using any earlier editions will result in out-of-date code requirements and practices. Firms will definitely find the application of tilt-up in this edition of the Manual to be much broader in its reach and more aggressive in its creativity.”
