TECHNOLOGY BRIEF COVERS CONCRETE ROOF TILES
Reflecting the increased popularity of concrete roof tiles, Portland Cement Association's newest two-page technology brief educates consumers, contractors, and architects on product benefits. Historically, concrete roof tiles — developed originally in Europe in the middle of the 19th century — have demonstrated 100-year service lives. Today, concrete tiles have grown more competitive as the cost of petroleum-based products such as asphalt shingles rises. Highly durable by virtue of resistance to the elements, they not only save money over the life cycle of a home, but also prevent landfill waste created by the replacement of most composition shingles.
The technology brief outlines the range of aesthetic options available in concrete roof tiles and explains the maintenance requirements for a tile roof. In addition, the brief provides tips on how to choose an appropriate contractor for installation.
The technology brief can be purchased as a printed piece in packs of 50 or obtained for free as a PDF file. To obtain more information or place an order, customers and industry colleagues are encouraged to visit the PCA Bookstore at www.cement.org/bookstore. Orders can also be placed by calling 800/868-6733.
