Ross Island Sand & Gravel: Crime victim?

Oregon's Ross Island Sand & Gravel would appear to know both real life and make believe criminal acts involving concrete mixer trucks. On an entertaining note, the company apparently loaned a mixer truck to producers filming “Bandits,” an action-adventure flick released last month. An opening sequence saw actors Bruce Willis and Billy Bob Thornton — convicts looking to break out of a correctional facility at which a concrete pour was under way — seize a Ross Island mixer and drive it through a chain link fence to freedom. The “Bandits” filming followed the staging of real property damage on Easter Sunday 2001, as two mixer trucks at Ross Island's Portland plant were torched. A report the following day in the local Oregonian newspaper noted that an ecological terrorist group, Earth Liberation Front, claimed responsibility for the arson — damage from which was pegged at $210,000.
