A year after an initial overture and subsequent Swiss agency and European Commission legal proceedings, Sika AG management remains steadfastly opposed to a stock transfer to global glass and building materials giant Saint-Gobain. Sika Chairman Dr. Paul Hälg calls the transaction “unparalleled in the world” and reiterates board concerns rooted in the bid’s structure: Saint-Gobain seeks the stake of the largest shareholder—the Burkhart family—amounting to 16.1 percent of shares, but vested with 52.4 percent of voting rights.

The parent of rear and front discharge mixer truck leader McNeilus Cos. has announced an executive transition, effective January 2016: Wilson Jones, president and chief operating officer, will replace Charlie Szews as Oshkosh Corp. chief executive officer. Since his 2005 appointment as Oshkosh Airport Products Business Unit vice president and general manager, Jones has held executive vice president and president posts in the Access Equipment (JLG) and Fire & Emergency (Pierce) segments—companions to the Commercial segment over McNeilus. In addition to the CEO appointment, he will replace Szews on the Oshkosh board.

Notre Dame engineering student team takes PCI 2015 Big Beam Contest

The Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute Student Education Committee recently judged the Sika Corp.-sponsored Engineering Student Design Competition, or Big Beam Contest, challenging college or university teams to fabricate and test a precast/prestressed concrete beam with the help of local PCI Producer members. Prizes based on efficient design, highest load capacity and other criteria are awarded to the top 20 entries, drawn from a North America-wide pool.
