OSHA makes crane operator certification extension official

True to lifting equipment manufacturer and operator projections, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration has proposed a one-year extension of a November 2017 crane operator certification deadline. The additional time will allow agency staff to fix Cranes and Derricks in Construction standard language—added in 2011 and relating to certification by equipment type and capacity—while defining other requirements to ensure certified operators are qualified.

Commission launches boom truck operator certification

The first phase of a new program, CCO Boom Truck—Fixed Cab (BTF) operator certification is now available for businesses operating fleets with truck-mounted cranes. The CCO Boom Truck—Fixed Cab (BTF) written exam is a modified version of the CCO Telescopic Boom—Fixed Cab (TSS) written exam.

Crane operator group expands certifications at NPCA urging

From the National Precast Concrete Association … The National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators (NCCCO) will develop two boom truck-specific certifications in response to requests from stakeholder groups. NCCCO envisions a certification subtype addressing the vehicles’ unique characteristics based on recommendations from a working group that included NPCA producer members and technical staff, plus other industry representatives.
