The National Ready Mixed Concrete Association and Portland Cement Association have named Joe Roche as chief financial officer, reporting to NRMCA President Mike Philipps and PCA CEO Mike Ireland. Roche arrives with 30-plus years’ management experience supporting non-profit and trade organizations, and immediately transitions from the National 4-H Council in Chevy Chase, Md. He will lead ongoing evaluation, development and implementation of NRMCA and PCA financial processes and systems, and oversee the groups’ Finance Shared Services agreement. Based primarily at the Alexandria, Va., association offices, Roche will work with external finance partners to implement process improvements, maximize system capabilities, and focus on staff development.

CIM Programs and Patrons start year strong after solid 2019

The Concrete Industry Management program auction grossed more than $1.2 million from bidding on a Mack Granite-mounted McNeilus Bridgemaster mixer, Somero S-485 laser screed, Shumaker Load and Go truck wash system, Mahindra Automotive 2020 Roxor off-road vehicle, and a host of smaller ticket product, material, equipment, and entertainment, sports or travel package offerings. The event was staged at the Las Vegas Convention Center amid World of Concrete 2020 day two activities. Proceeds will benefit CIM degree programs at Middle Tennessee State University, Murfreesboro; New Jersey Institute of Technology, Newark; Texas State University, San Marcos; and, California State University, Chico.

One of the primary Concrete Industry Management Program catalysts on the academia side has commenced an online survey to gauge employee burnout and worklife context. As director of the School of Concrete and Construction Management at MTSU—home to the charter CIM degree program—Dr. Heather Brown and Associate Professor Dr. Jacob Avila cite the survey’s intent of “advancing collective understanding of work and identifying intervention strategies to enhance the health and engagement of professionals in the concrete industry.”
