The Decorative Concrete Council has announced the winners of its eighth annual Decorative Concrete Awards competition. Awards were presented to 27 projects in cast-in-place stamped, stained or special finish, polished, overlay, vertical application, architectural concrete and artistry categories. A specialty council of the American Society of Concrete Contractors, DCC announced the winners last month at World of Concrete 2016 in Las Vegas.
James Bogdan has joined National Ready Mixed Concrete Association as senior director, Sustainability Initiatives. Based in Pittsburgh, he will help position members to meet new requirements in such green building standards as LEED and Green Globes. Initiatives include product sustainability and transparency, supply chain sustainability, and other environmental, social and governance (ESG) practices.

Concrete Industry Management students at Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU), Murfreesboro, recently placed fresh mixes in a U-shaped concrete wall section formed the day before, continuing the ASCC Education, Research and Development Foundation-funded “Evaluation and Examination of ACI 347.3R ‘Guide to Formed Concrete Surfaces’” project.
The American Coal Ash Association Educational Foundation awarded $7,500 in scholarships to two university students with interests in advancing the sustainable and environmentally responsible use of coal combustion products. The Foundation also announced new names for the scholarships honoring coal ash beneficial use industry leaders.
The National Precast Concrete Association noted the early-June passing of founding member Douglas Hoskin, a professional engineer and former president of Ontario-based Unit Step Woodstock. He joined a group of producers and suppliers to form NPCA in 1965, serving in variety of capacities with the association, including chairman (1973).
