NASA 3D-Printed Challenge ignites World of Concrete Start-Up Zone

The ACI Foundation’s Strategic Development Council (SDC) is the lead sponsor of the Concrete Start-Up Zone, debuting at World of Concrete 2019, January 22-25. Based at Las Vegas Convention Center Booth N153, within the show’s Producer Center, the exhibit will feature emerging technologies and innovations, led by National Aeronautics and Space Administration 3D-Printed Habitat Challenge concepts. Participating teams will discuss the status of their research on 3D printing methods for concrete structures. ACI Foundation doubles up on 2018 research, scholarship funding

ACI will close the year with $1 million in funding for the ACI Foundation, which supports research, scholarships, new technologies and issues of strategic importance to the concrete industry. Double ACI’s annual $500,000 commitment for the separately managed Foundation, the 2018 tally includes one-time contributions totaling $486,000 plus funding for a new Middle East Fellowship.

ACI elected officers and directors during its spring convention in Kansas City. Sharon Wood, FACI, has begun a one-year term as president. Dean of the University of Texas, Austin, Cockrell School of Engineering and ACI member since 1983, she serves on Committee 318, Structural Concrete Building Code, and has served as past ETC Product Development Committee chair, ACI Foundation trustee, plus Financial Advisory and International Advisory Committee member.
