CRSI updates Placing Reinforcing Bars

The Concrete Reinforcing Steel Institute has released the ninth edition of the popular book, “Placing Reinforcing Bars.” Written for apprentices, ironworkers and inspectors working with steel reinforced concrete, the book presents the best accepted current practices in placing reinforcing bars.

Decorative Concrete council calls for entries

Entries are being accepted through Sept. 30 for the 2012 Decorative Concrete Awards. Hosted by the Decorative Concrete Council, a specialty council of the American Society of Concrete Contractors, the fourth annual awards program is open to DCC members and non-members.

Tony Smith of Charlotte, N.C., has accepted the position of director of estimating for Metromont Corporation. Smith has a background in drafting, estimating, and most recently sales and development. He has been with Metromont for 20 years and will be relocating to Greenville, S.C., to assume his new responsibilities.

Hanson Building Products North America has hired Jay Cariveau, AIA, LEED AP, as vice president of sales for its structural precast division. He is responsible for sales, estimating and project management for architectural and structural precast facilities in California, Idaho, Minnesota and Utah. Cariveau has more than 23 years of building industry experience, which includes 13 years in precast concrete with multi-facility producers serving varied market segments. He is a board member of the Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute (PCI) and chairman of its marketing council, as well as a member of the American Institute of Architects, U.S. Green Building Council, Society of American Military Engineers, and Urban Land Institute.
