Attorney at law J. Coleman, P.E., named ACI president

ACI has elected 40-year member Jeffrey Coleman, principal of an eponymous Minneapolis law firm, as 2020-21 president. An Institute Fellow, he has served on the ACI Board of Direction and as a member of Committee 301, Specifications for Structural Concrete, plus Construction Liaison, TAC Specifications, Financial Advisory and Conventions Committees, and chaired Responsibility in Concrete Construction, now Committee 132. Prior to obtaining a law degree, he practiced as a structural engineer with Ellerbe Associates, a predecessor to a firm now under AECOM. Through his current firm, founded in 2013 after a few partnerships, he represents engineers, architects, concrete contractors and suppliers, and building owners in all aspects of construction.

Utility weighs 2 million ton fly ash processing project

Georgia Power is reviewing beneficial reuse prospects for upwards of 2 million tons of coal ash at Plant Mitchell, a retired generating station near Albany, Ga. A forthcoming contract will mark the first time in the state where coal combustion residuals from existing ponds are excavated and converted to ASTM C 618-grade fly ash.
