The National Precast Concrete Association Board has appointed Frederick Grubbe, MBA, CAE, successor to President and CEO Ty Gable, who will cap 25-plus years with the Carmel, Ind. group with a previously announced year-end retirement. Effective January 2020, Grubbe will lead NPCA’s staff, programs and activities to ensure objectives are attained, plans fulfilled, and member needs are met. He will participate with directors in developing the strategic plan and maintaining effective internal and external relationships.

Galvanized bar demonstrates potential for century-plus service life

Worth, Texas-based metal coating solutions provider AZZ Inc. reports that its continuous galvanized rebar (CGR) product, Galvabar, has been found to provide reliable concrete reinforcement with a plausible service life exceeding 100 years. A Texas A&M University College of Engineering research team, addressing last month’s Tran-SET seminar at the school’s Center for Infrastructure Renewal in Bryan, presented findings from an investigation examining cost-effectiveness and longevity of different concrete reinforcements.

Cor-Tuf strengthens UHPC advancement with new partnership

Cor-Tuf, the exclusive licensed producer of U.S. Army Corps of Engineers-patented ultra-high performance concrete, has formalized an agreement with Virginia-based Precast Systems Engineering, LLC. Under the partnership, Cor-Tuf will help PSE develop the UHPC mixing technology for project-specific uses, utilizing local supplemental constituents. Additionally, PSE will support Cor-Tuf as a structural engineering resource to advance the technology and promote the continued development of Cor-Tuf UHPC.
