Dryvit tests insulated brick, EIFS, ICF synergies in Nudura deal

Expanding its scope of energy-efficient building solutions for commercial and residential markets, leading Exterior Insulation and Finish Systems (EIFS) manufacturer Dryvit Systems Inc., West Warwick, R.I., has acquired Nudura Corp., a key insulating concrete form manufacturer and distributor. Ontario-based Nudura will be a stand-alone unit of Dryvit, which along with EIFS has developed NewBrick, an insulated clay brick-styled veneer product. Both businesses are part of RPM Specialty Products, one of three groups under Medina, Ohio-based RPM International—parent of admixture producer Euclid Chemical (Industrial Products).

Along with residential and commercial applications, Nudura ICF solutions are increasingly being adopted in educational and healthcare facilities, where specifiers value buildings resistant to fire and earthquake or hurricane forces, and also offer the opportunity to lower heating and cooling costs.

Dryvit Systems added NewBrick to its legacy Exterior Insulation and Finish Systems. The insulated brick cladding is shown here with concrete masonry and conventional frame walls, the latter including the NewBrick CI insulation system.

“The acquisition of Nudura reflects [a] global commitment to providing the built environment with premium, labor saving, energy-efficient building solutions to meet today’s need for higher performing building envelopes,” says Dryvit Chief Executive Officer R. Michael Murphy. “We are pleased to be able to integrate a high-quality, proven ICF option to our already industry-leading array of high performance, energy efficient and environmentally responsible building envelope systems.”

“This is a noteworthy joining of two dynamic and innovative companies committed to bringing forward thinking solutions to the building, design and construction sectors,” adds Murray Snider, who will continue as Nudura’s president and will report to Murphy.

Nudura provides four series of ICF wall systems consisting of expanded polystyrene foam boards and integral hinged plastic webs that hold both sides of them together, along with a range of complementary building envelope products. The company has three manufacturing plants and an extensive network of 260 professional distributors in major North American markets.

“Nudura is an excellent strategic fit that offers several key competitive advantages for Dryvit. Its product line will complement and expand Dryvit’s existing offering, allowing for enhanced cross-selling opportunities,” affirms RPM Chairman Frank Sullivan. “At the same time, Nudura’s manufacturing footprint will be leveraged for efficiencies in the manufacturing of Dryvit’s NewBrick product, as well as products of other companies within our Specialty Products Group.”
