Sika veteran Gentoso succeeds LafargeHolcim US Cement CEO Stull

Jamie Gentoso has been named LafargeHolcim, US Cement chief executive officer, replacing John Stull, who recently shifted in the same capacity to the Holcim Philippines business. She arrives at the Chicago-based operator with a solid industry grasp, having started her career as Holcim (US) technical service engineer, then serving as Architectural and Engineering market manager with a focus on ASTM C150 and specialty cements, plus fly ash. Gentoso proceeded to Sika Corp., rising to vice president of Concrete ahead of her most recent position, vice president of Sales & Marketing, with New Jersey-based architectural building products manufacturer Construction Specialties.

ACI forms alternative cement committee

The American Concrete Institute has formed ACI Committee 242, Alternative Cements, to develop and report information on the use of alternate cements in concrete. The new committee will work with ACI’s innovative task group focused on alternative cementitious materials, who recently authored the institute’s new ITG-10R: Practitioner’s Guide for Alternative Cements.

Boral Ltd. has reached an agreement to sell its Colorado ready mixed and aggregates operations in a $127 million deal with Denver-based Brannan Sand & Gravel Co. Brannan operates three ready mixed, three aggregate and four asphalt plants serving the Denver-anchored Front Range market, plus an underground-construction business.

Economist confirms largest construction materials price surge in seven years

Prices for inputs to construction materials expanded 1.3 percent in April and are 6.4 percent higher than at the same time one year ago, according to an Associated Builders and Contractors analysis of U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics data.
