Standard measures drainage products’ pollutant removal capacity

ASTM Committee C27 on Precast Concrete Products’ proposed WK52521, Standard Practice for the Performance Criteria for Storm Water Treatment Devices, will help measure the release of runoff-conveyed contaminants from streets, parking lots, and other structures into natural waterways.

While there are numerous ways and devices to remove particulates from runoff, there are no measures to evaluate their effectiveness, notes ASTM member and Advanced Drainage Systems Chief Engineer John Kurdziel. Committee C27 is looking for additional input from municipalities, regulatory agencies and consulting engineers—all target WK52521 users—to ensure the standard adequately addresses their concerns, he adds. The standard will be among agenda topics during the next C27 meeting, December 7 at the Sheraton New Orleans. ASTM staff liaison for the committee is Joseph Hugo, 610/830-9740; [email protected].
