Masonry wall cavity, framing insulation

The new Kingspan Kooltherm K8 Cavity and K12 Framing Boards represent a wall design option engineered to consume less space than alternative methods, while delivering higher thermal performance plus fire and smoke protection. Both products feature a core of performance rigid thermoset fiber-free phenolic insulant manufactured with a blowing agent that has zero Ozone Depletion Potential and low Global Warming Potential—two metrics typifying Environmental Product Declarations. K8 suits partially filled cavity walls, K12 wood or steel frame walls. The latter is resistant to the passage of water vapor, unaffected by air infiltration, and can be used between studs or as an insulating sheathing.

The boards made their U.S. debut during last month’s American Institute of Architects Conference on Architecture 2017. “Our technology allows us to deliver a rigid thermoset insulation with the highest R-value per inch,” said Kingspan Insulation North America Managing Director Alswinn Kieboom. “We want to make life easier for architects and builders by giving them a thinner product that outperforms the competition and allows more freedom for their designs.” — Kingspan Insulation LLC, Atlanta, 678/589-7320
