Lanxess musters Bayferrox customers, adds pigment capacity

The Lanxess Corp. Inorganic Pigments (IPG) business unit recently hosted its annual Bayferrox Color Workshop in Pittsburgh for North American concrete producers. Now in its 26th consecutive year, the course is an intensive educational and laboratory training program designed to help participants learn how to better use iron oxide pigments to produce colored concrete products more consistently and economically. Over the course of 2.5 days, participants receive comprehensive classroom education from Lanxess color experts, followed by hands-on laboratory exercises at the IPG North American Competence Center in Burgettstown, Pa.

Calculator performs life cycle assessment for slag cement concrete

The Slag Cement Association has programmed a calculator with which concrete producers can quantify and interpret cradle-to-gate life cycle assessments (LCA) reflecting the environmental impact of mixtures with and without slag cement. Calculations are based on the industry-average Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) for ready mixed concrete that incorporates industry-average EPDs for slag cement and portland cement in the United States. The calculator also allows users to evaluate how different concrete mixtures affect whole building impacts based on a typical case study project.

McInnis Cement starts Big Apple terminal construction

Work is underway at the New York terminal of Montreal-based McInnis Cement, whose eastern Quebec mill is nearing production and positioned to supply markets from the Mid-Atlantic to the Great Lakes. The south Bronx site is part of McInnis’ network of terminals, strategically located throughout the eastern portion of North America and chosen for their access to efficient waterways, as well as their proximity to the market to minimize customers’ tanker truck miles.
