Cemex USA leaves nothing to chance in headquarters materials specs

The new home of 200-plus Cemex USA headquarters staff is designed to tell the story of company products through the use and display of concrete, cement and aggregate. Lending an industrial feel, effects include polished concrete hallway floors, cement-based wall tile treatments and handrails fabricated from rebar, which is also used as a circular ring bearing video monitors in the facility’s Customer Experience Center.

In addition to sourcing concrete from the producer’s local ready mixed operations for the headquarters construction, notes Cemex USA Director of Real Estate Ed Prins, “We worked with Inventure Design of Houston to showcase the versatility of our products internally, and it illustrates how cement is the foundation of our lives every day.”

The 82,000-sq.-ft. office is located across the Interstate 10/Katy Freeway from the producer’s prior headquarters. Flanked by company officials and employees, Cemex USA President Ignacio Madridejos brandished a pair of golden scissors to cut the ribbon at the entrance to new offices, noting “This beautiful building will be part of the community for years and illustrates our commitment to being part of it.”

Polished concrete floors lead to a centralized staircase made of a cement-based product, notes Morgan Stautzenberger of Inventure Design. Houston-based Anslow Bryant Construction and O’Donnell/Snider Construction did the pours and coordinated the polishing, respectively.
