The largest independent coal ash processor and marketer has added a Sulphur, La., terminal to a distribution system of multiple sourcing locations across the country, aimed at ensuring concrete producers and other customers a steady and reliable supply of Class C and Class F fly ash. The new site offers Greater Lake Charles/Sulfur Area producers Class F fly ash, and is Charah’s second barge-supplied location in southern Louisiana—alongside a LaPlace terminal serving in state, Mississippi and Alabama accounts.

Lawmaker trains on Davis-Bacon prevailing wage calculation

Adding to an early-2017 bill targeting the 1931 Davis-Bacon Act, Senator Jeff Flake (R-AZ) has introduced The Opportunity in Federal Construction Act (S. 1200), which directs the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) to use Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) data to calculate prevailing wages for federal and federally assisted construction projects. A BLS data method would replace the current practice of relying on the DOL Wage and Hour Division to calculate Davis-Bacon-bound job wage levels.

Aggregate Industries brings hockey to life at Bruins’ new practice facility

Aggregate Industries US (AIUS), a subsidiary of LafargeHolcim Ltd., designed and developed the decorative concrete that brought landscape architect Carol R. Johnson Associates Inc.’s vision for the Boston Bruins’ new Warrior Ice Arena to life. The architect wanted to bring the imagery of hockey from the interior to the exterior of the complex. The main entrance to the 75,000-sq.-ft. practice facility features a landmark 68-ft.-high hockey stick and giant granite hockey pucks as well as a unique hardscape design.
