IndustriALL Global Union and Building and Wood Workers International officials cite progress toward a Global Framework Agreement with Swiss neighbor LafargeHolcim Ltd., whose sprawling cement, ready mixed concrete and aggregate operations encompass hundreds of prospective bargaining units across the world.

The Geneva-based groups and LafargeHolcim eye an agreement prioritizing “the pillars of fundamental rights; health & safety; exchange of information; and, resolution of conflicts and contractor management.” Detailed discussions are to begin in due course with a document signing later this year.

“We strongly believe that people are core to the success of the company and our ambition is to create a workplace that is safe, diverse, inclusive, and respectful where people enjoy coming to work,” says LafargeHolcim Head of Organization and Human Resources Carolina Luscombe. “We want to build on our past track record of constructive and responsible social dialogue with the global unions through development of a Global Framework Agreement.”

“We expect that LafargeHolcim ensures the respect and promotion of international labor regulations in all the geographies where it operates,” adds IndustriALL General Secretary Valter Sanchez.
