BASF Construction Chemicals and Performance Materials divisions in North America can provide design and engineering professionals reports satisfying requirements for Building Product Disclosure and Optimization – Material Ingredients, Option 1. The company’s Product Compliance Management Process was recently certified by a third-party organization, GreenCircle Certified LLC, to ensure independent authentication of environmental claims.
The certification positions BASF as the largest provider of LEED v4 Manufacturer Inventory Reports, now available for chemical admixtures, concrete repair and protection systems, foam insulation systems, flooring systems, performance grouts, underground construction products, waterproofing and sealants, expansion control systems, and wall systems. The reports adhere to requirements of the Globally Harmonized System for the Classification and Labeling of Chemicals, and are equivalent in LEED v4 to Health Product Declaration, Cradle to Cradle, Manufacturer Inventory Reports using GreenScreen benchmark evaluation, and Declare.
“We deliver transparent information about our products, and support the industry’s efforts to deliver healthy, sustainable solutions for the built environment,” says BASF Construction Chemicals Sustainability Analyst David Green. “This certification provides architects, designers and LEED project teams with the information needed to make educated decisions regarding the products they use in the design and execution of structures.”
“BASF is a first-mover in helping the sustainable construction industry contribute to earning points within the updated, more rigorous, LEED v4 standard,” adds GreenCircle Vice President, Certification Services Annie Bevan. “As the largest chemical producer in the world, they have set the bar for clarity and integrity in the industry.”
GreenCircle verified that the BASF Product Compliance Management System assesses the hazards of all the ingredients that make up a product, including impurities. It utilized the results to certify that the Manufacturer Inventory Reports meet the LEED v4 Material Ingredient, Option 1 requirements. The GreenCircle certified product database can be accessed here.
