President-elect Donald Trump will nominate Elaine Chao to be U.S. Secretary of Transportation. A Vulcan Materials Co. director and the wife of Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), she was Secretary of Labor from 2001–2009, throughout both terms of President George W. Bush, and has also served as DOT deputy secretary and Federal Maritime Commission chairman.

Citing a solid working relationship with Secretary Chao in previous DOT and Labor capacities, NSSGA President Michael Johnson notes, “We congratulate her on being nominated to lead the Transportation Department and look forward to working with her to implement President-elect Trump’s $1 trillion infrastructure plan.”
