American Manufacturing Group consolidates units, upgrades castings, fabrication

A recent consolidation of the former American Manufacturing Group, Manufacturing Division of American CNC Leasing, LLC and a foundry castings business has spawned a new Jonesboro, Ark.-based entity, American Manufacturing Group–Marketing Division, to handle the sales of existing Box Culvert Mold Equipment plus an expanded line of domestic foundry products. Sales will be coordinated by General Manager L. Paul Fergeson through an established manufacturers representative network.

NCMA names 2015 officers; launches online university, plant certification

Capping a 2015 convention that drew 500-plus producer and associate members to San Antonio, the National Concrete Masonry Association board elected Joseph Bowen as chairman for a one-year term, during which he envisions a strategically driven approach that engages and leverages members to push market growth in an improving economy. Bowen is executive chairman of Auburn, Wash.-based Mutual Materials. A leading source of concrete or clay unit masonry for Pacific Northwest building and hardscape markets, it runs one paver, one architectural slab, three brick and four block plants, plus a mortar and grout bagging operation, in Oregon, Washington and British Columbia. Joining him as 2015 NCMA officers are Chair-Elect Pat Sauter of King’s Materials, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Past-Chair Dale Puskas of Basalite Concrete Products, Dixon, Calif.

PCI calls for 2015 Design Award entries

The program recognizes design excellence, innovation, and construction quality using precast concrete. All winning projects will be showcased at the 2016 PCI Convention and National Bridge Conference at The Precast Show, March 2016 in Nashville, and featured in PCI Journal, Aspire, and Ascent magazines.

With exposed surface area equal to nearly 10 football fields, one of the world’s top concrete icons supported an early-May premier for the first autonomous Class 8 truck licensed to use public roads. Hoover Dam, linking Arizona and Nevada at the Black Canyon, served as the backdrop for a prime time video presentation on the Freightliner Inspiration Truck. The vehicle’s arrival at the center of the structure, whose top bears limited U.S. 93 traffic, capped a 30-minute production.

Hanson Pipe & Precast adds City Drains, Hydroguard to branded lines

An agreement with Betonwerk US will see Hanson Pipe & Precast manufacture and distribute City Drains, a streamlined, unobtrusive surface drain and underground pipe system for commercial and residential applications. Terms call for the producer to offer two models in Florida: the City Drain 100, which is designed for residential and light commercial use, can be saw-cut on site, does not require a cast-in-place foundation, and includes a newly developed connection system; and, City Drain 150, which suits commercial use, eliminates traffic vibration noise, and reduces concrete foundation requirements. Both models can be paved directly to the edge and install quickly.
