Cemex and mid-sized independent Concrete Supply Co. have announced a Charlotte-based joint venture with 2 million-yd. production capacity across North Carolina and South Carolina ready mixed plants.

“The joint venture will create a regionally focused company with strong local management to service every facet of the market, from the largest to smallest projects,” says Cemex USA President Karl Watson Jr. The new entity, Concrete Supply Co., LLC, he adds, “will have the ability to apply best practices from Cemexʼs global operations yet operate as a local, Carolina concrete company.”

“This will substantially improve the ability of the combined company to service customers and cost structure of the operations involved, each being essential in a highly competitive marketplace,” affirms Concrete Supply Co. President Henry Batten, who will lead the new entity.

The joint venture stands to encompass about 60 Cemex USA and 30 Concrete Supply ready mixed production sites. Subject to closing of transactions anticipated later this year, it will be majority owned by Concrete Supply Holdings Co., which will act as the managing member.

The joint venture is the second of its kind for Cemex, which teamed with Birmingham, Ala.-based Ready Mix USA in 2005 to create one of the Southeast’s leading ready mixed and concrete masonry sources.
