NRMCA honors Argos, Cemstone, Drake, Holcim executives

Recipients of NRMCA Business Administration, Operations, Environmental and Safety, Promotion, and Research, Engineering & Standards Committees’ annual awards were recognized during the association’s 2012 convention, earlier this month in Savannah, Ga.

The Business Administration Committee presented H. Tom Becken of Cemstone in Mendota Heights, Minn., the 2012 William B. Allen Award, named for one of the industry’s most distinguished management consultants and plant-management veterans.

The Promotion Committee presented Peter Deem, recently retired from Holcim (US) Inc. after nearly 30 years, its Lifetime Achievement for Promotion Award, and, Larry Gibbes of Argos USA’s Carolinas operation, Promoter of the Year Award. The committee also presented a Lifetime Achievement Award for Promotion, posthumously, to Dave Twomey, who recently passed away in Scarborough, Me. His 40-year-plus career spanned positions with contractor Cianbro Corp., Dragon Products and the Northern New England Concrete Promotion Association.

The Operations, Environmental and Safety Committee presented Schwing America’s Charlie Schumacher the Joseph E. Carpenter Award, and the Research, Engineering & Standards Committee honored NRMCA Senior Vice President Colin Lobo with the Richard D. Gaynor Award. The Kentucky Ready Mixed Concrete Association received the State Association of the Year Award.

The NRMCA Manufacturers, Products & Services Division named Scottsdale, Ariz.-based Drake Materials winner of the 2012 Concrete Cares Award. In partnership with the Arizona Diamonbacks MBL team, the producer helped build and pave the Miracle League of Arizona Baseball complex in Scottsdale.
